"I saw this elderly gentleman dining by himself, with an old picture of a lady in front of him. I though maybe I could brighten his day by talking to him.
As I had assumed, she was his wife. But I didn’t expect such an interesting story. They met when they were both 17. They dated briefly, then lost contact when he went to war and her family moved. But he said he thought about her the entire war. After his return, he decided to look for her. He searched for her for 10 years and never dated anyone. People told him he was crazy, to which he replied “I am. Crazy in love”. On a trip to California, he went to a barber shop. He told the barber how he had been searching for a girl for ten years. The barber went to his phone and called his daughter in. It was her! She had also been searching for him and never dated either.
He proposed immediately and they were married for 55 years before her death 5 years ago. He still celebrates her birthday and their anniversary. He takes her picture with him everywhere and kisses her goodnight.
Some inspiring things he said;
"I was a very rich man. Not with money, but with love"
"I never had a single argument with my wife, but we had lots of debates"
"People are like candles. At any moment a breeze can blow it out, so enjoy the light while you have it."
"Tell your wife that you love her everyday. And be sure to ask her, have I told you that I love you lately?"
Be sure to talk to the elderly. Especially strangers. You may think that you will brighten their day, but you may be surprised that they can actually brighten yours.”
And I’d give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don’t want to miss you tonight
How do you even begin to put into adequate fulfilling words how thankful you are that someone special to you- was born?!
DAA was born on December 11th, 1997 in South Africa. He now resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I had the privilege of meeting this cootie feller in October of 2012. And my life has been changed for the better ever since.
He is one of the those people you dont go looking for. Its like God literally just DROPS them *PLOP* into your life/lap and is like, “Hey! Thought you could use an awesome friend, lemme know how you like this one! Think you might appreciate him!”
And boy was God right.
DAA challenges me spiritually, mentally, physically (we are accountability workout buddies), and emotionally.
He has taught me how to trust someone whole heartedly again. He has taught me to alter my P.O.V on random different things in everyday life. He has taught me that distance doesn’t keep the heart from caring and bonding. He has reminded me of my worth as a female and as a friend.
He’s showed me that when there are no words to soothe the hurt to just listen to the music. He’s showed me what a gentlemen is like. He showed me that he genuinely cared about my day when he would say, “Tell me your stories!”. He’s showed me that there is such a combination of a guy that is gentle yet posses a strong warrior spirit. He’s showed me its ok to have silent moments with each other because you can still talk with your eyes.
He’s inspiring with his musical talents. His adoration, hunger, and love for Jesus is beyond admirable. He respects his parents and wants to make them proud. He is a gentlemen to all females. He is continually bettering himself in all aspects.
I would not be the Arielle I am today -on December 11th 2013 if I hadn’t met DAA.
I’ve never been SO thankful for someone being born as I am about him.
I’m not lucky I’m BLESSED that the stars aligned just perfectly and DAA was born and I had the honor of making his acquaintance.
DAA; Happy 17th birthday my dear and thank you for showing me the meaning of the quote:
"There will be dozens of people who will take your breath away, but the one that reminds you to breathe is the one you should keep."
